The Miss South Africa Organisation confirmed that the Miss South Africa 2025 winner will not compete in the Miss Universe 2025 pageant.
Why It’s Happening
Sean Lane, creative director of Miss SA, said it’s down to time constraints. The Miss SA finale is set for 25 October 2025, while Miss Universe 2025 takes place on 21 November 2025.
He explained that a Miss SA winner requires up to three months to prepare properly for Miss Universe. With only about four weeks between SA’s crowning and the global pageant, the organisation believes it would be unfair to send someone unprepared.
The New Era for Miss SA
Miss SA is undergoing changes. Former Miss South Africa winners Basetsana Kumalo (1994) and Peggy-Sue Khumalo (1996) are now co-chairs.
The pageant has also changed some logistics. Finalists dropped from Top 10 to Top 9 due to a withdrawal, but the show will go on at SunBet Time Square Arena in Pretoria.
What Fans Are Saying
Many fans took to social media to express disappointment and frustration. Some felt Miss SA skipping Miss Universe is a lost opportunity on the global stage. Others understand the timing logic and believe the organization made a responsible call.
What It Means Moving Forward
Not competing in Miss Universe this year doesn’t change the prestige of Miss SA. The winner will still have influence, brand partnerships, and opportunities locally and continentally.
Miss SA Org says they are focusing on restructuring and empowerment this year. They plan to return to international pageants when preparation timelines align.
